Monster and Story
Monster Story
Once there was a little girl monster named Nerium. One sunny day she was feeling lonely so she decided to find some friends to play with. She saw a little boy playing with a ball so she flew over to say hello. "Mommy help, the monster is going to get me!" screamed the little boy as he saw Nerium approach. Nerium was sad and even lonlier. She was very puzzled as well. She didn't even eat humans or even harm them! She decided to go home and ask her mother about what happened. Her mother told her that people thought since some monsters ate people, every monster ate people, even though some many didn't. The moral of this story is to never assume that someone is bad because they might be nice. |

Name of Artist: Adhemas Batista
Dates of Life: Nov. 1980-
Personal Background: Adhemas was born in Brazil and loved drawing, especially comics. At 15, Batista started his self taught career. He got access to a computer during an office internship and began to teach himself how to design and program. He worked with some local advertisers and at age 20 started his own agency with his brother.
Style: Adhemas Batista's images are all extremely colorful and vibrant. In his art, he uses shading and highlighting to make the images seem 3D instead of 2D. The background often looks like an explosion of swirls, patterns and flowers.
Philosophy: Batista wanted to incorporate colors and photography to create abstract shapes with images to create harmoniously. Many of his works were for advertisement and so he used the power of persuasion through design to convince people to use a product. Other times it is to promote organizations such as 'Right to Play'.
Influences: Like Batista's work, my design is very colorful and vibrant. There are shapes bursting from the present on the art board. The shapes are explosive with patterns and swirls. Like the image that inspired me, it is Christmas themed.
Sources: Safeway Bag
Compare and Contrast: One thing that is extremely different is the background. I have a gradient as my background, giving the box a glowing effect. In his image, it is just plain white with crystal snowflakes. Also, my swirls are exploding from a box, his are just hanging from the top of the art board. Some things relatively similar are the shapes of the swirls, and the arrangement of the swirls along with the use of bright colors.
Personal Artist Statement: My image is a family holiday card for an average middle class family living in a city. I used form and a gradient for the present box to make it look 3D. The colors I used were Christmas themed - red and green. I used movement because the eyes move from the box up to the explosion.
